The Need for Sustainability, Equity, and International Exchange: Perspectives of Early Career Environmental Psychologists on the Future of Conferences.Jana K. Köhler, Agnes S. Kreil, Ariane Wenger, Aurore Darmandieu, Catherine Graves, Christian A. P. Haugestad, Veronique Holzen, Ellis Keller, Sam Lloyd, Michalina Marczak, Vanja Međugorac & Claudio D. Rosa - 2022 - Frontiers in Psychology 13.
At the 2019 and 2021 International Conference on Environmental Psychology, discussions were held on the future of conferences in light of the enormous greenhouse gas emissions and inequities associated with conference travel. In this manuscript, we provide an early career researcher perspective on this discussion. We argue that travel-intensive conference practices damage both the environment and our credibility as a discipline, conflict with the intrinsic values and motivations of our discipline, and are inequitable. As such, they must change. This change (...)

    Harmonic Oscillator Trap and the Phase-Shift Approximation.H. S. Köhler - 2014 - Foundations of Physics 44 (9):960-972.
The energy-spectrum of two point-like particles interacting in a 3-D isotropic Harmonic Oscillator (H.O.) trap is related to the free scattering phase-shifts \(\delta \) of the particles by a formula first published by Busch et al. It is here used to find an expression for the shift of the energy levels, caused by the interaction, rather than the perturbed spectrum itself. In the limit of high energy (large quantum number \(n\) of the H.O.) this shift (in H.O. units) is shown (...)

Nationalismus und Religion: Hermann Cohen zum 100. Todestag.Eveline Goodman-Thau & George Y. Kohler (eds.)
[REVIEW]D. D. - 1982 - Review of Metaphysics 35 (4):880-882.
This work is the result of a dissertation and it often reads like one. Repetitions and programmatic statements become tedious as Kohler argues the familiar thesis that Kant's faithful insights into aesthetic experience are severely undermined by an alien conceptual structure. Yet the painstaking analyses of certain passages basic to Kant's project are invaluable. There is probably not a single major issue in Kant's aesthetic theory of the beautiful and judgments of taste that does not receive a sensitive and (...)

This article published is a commemoration of Monsignor Vincent Foy's contributions to Catholic thought. -/- After having examined many of Teilhard's writings and commentaries that have been articulated by both supporters and detractors, I am persuaded that one should not take an all-or-nothing approach to Teilhard (or any other thinker for that matter). Max Frischeisen-Köhler’s Vindication of the Material Component of Cognition.Andrea Staiti - 2016 - Philosophia Scientiae 20:119-142.

  21. On the Paradox of Gestalt Switches: Wittgenstein’s Response to Kohler.Naomi Eilan - 2013 - Journal for the History of Analytical Philosophy 2 (3).
Wittgenstein formulates the paradox of gestalt switches thus: ‘What is incomprehensible is that nothing, and yet everything has changed, after all. That is the only way to put it’. In the course of isolating what I take to be the best of the various solutions to the paradox explored by Wittgenstein, the following claims are defended: (a) A significant strand in Wittgenstein’s own formulation of, and solution to, the paradox can best be understood as a response to three specific claims (...)

The project of a naive physics has been the subject of attention in recent years above all in the artificial intelligence field, in connection with work on common-sense reasoning, perceptual representation and robotics. The idea of a theory of the common-sense world is however much older than this, having its roots not least in the work of phenomenologists and Gestalt psychologists such as Kohler, Husserl, Schapp and Gibson. This paper seeks to show how contemporary naive physicists can profit from (...)

    A Phenomenology of Creative Attention.Diego D'Angelo - 2018 - Phänomenologische Forschungen 2018 (2):100-117.
This paper develops the concept of ‘creative attention’. Against classical theories that understand attention as a spotlight that brings objects into focus, I will argue that attention is a complex phenomenon structured in different layers. The most basic layer is perceptual, passive and pre-predicative: at this level, attention is creative – and this is the central claim of this paper – because it institutes meanings and rules for our behaviour.

A stream of conscious experience is extremely contextual; it is impacted by sensory stimuli, drives and emotions, and the web of associations that link, directly or indirectly, the subject of experience to other elements of the individual's worldview. The contextuality of one's conscious experience both enhances and constrains the contextuality of one's behavior. Since we cannot know first-hand the conscious experience of another, it is by way of behavioral contextuality that we make judgements about whether or not, and to what (...)

The aim of the article is to clarify the content of the concept of culture as an explication of vitality within the philosophy of life and its further modifications in current problems of contemporary. The analysis performed standing from the point, that contrasting of nature and culture is irrelevant, since culture does not contradict natural determinants and patterns, but rather qualitatively alters them. So, are justified the idea of culture as a phenomenon that exist accordingly and in proportion to (...)

Fichte’s Doctrine of Science of 1811 offers a sound model for explaining the conditions of semantics in its connection with the idea of freedom. Following Wolfram Hogrebe’s suggestion that the principle of contradiction works as an archaeological semantic postulate, i.e., is the implicit condition for any sentence to be meaningful, we argue that in Fichte’s definition of the phenomenon we find such a semantic postulate at a higher genetic level than the principle of contradiction indicated by Hogrebe. Moreover, the Doctrine (...)
